Ingredients:
- 20g fresh yeast (0.7 oz)
- 150ml lukewarm milk (⅔ cup)
- 30g sugar (1.05 ounces)
- 1 egg
- 290g all-purpose flour (10.2 ounces)
- Pinch of salt
- 30g butter (1.05 ounces)
- Cooking oil
- 200g ham (7.05 ounces)
- 300g cheddar cheese (10.6 ounces)
Instructions:
- Dissolve fresh yeast in lukewarm milk, add sugar, and let it sit for a few minutes. Beat in the egg.
- Mix in the flour, salt, and softened butter to form a dough. Knead until smooth and elastic. Allow to rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into rectangles.
- Place ham and cheddar cheese on one half of each rectangle, then fold the dough over to enclose the filling, sealing the edges.
- Brush with beaten egg and bake at 180°C / 356°F for approximately 20 minutes, until golden brown.
Tips:
- Ensure the yeast is activated by letting it sit in the lukewarm milk with sugar before incorporating other ingredients.
- Letting the dough rise in a warm place is crucial for proper leavening and a light texture.
- Use good quality ham and cheddar cheese for the best flavor.
- Experiment with different fillings like vegetables or other types of cheese for variety.
