Dreamy Buttercream Frosting Recipe | So Easy!

Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (226 grams) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups (16 ounces) powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Start by ensuring the butter is at a soft room temperature. If it’s too firm, microwave it in 10-second bursts at 50% power until it yields slightly when pressed with a finger.
  2. Using a stand mixer with a paddle attachment (preferably) or a hand mixer on low speed, cream the softened butter for approximately 5 minutes until light and fluffy.
  3. Gradually sift in the powdered sugar in batches to avoid lumps. Mix on low speed after each addition until fully incorporated. Scrape down the sides of the bowl periodically to ensure even mixing.
  4. Once the powdered sugar is incorporated, add 2-3 tablespoons of heavy cream or milk while mixing on low speed. This will help achieve a smoother and creamier consistency.
  5. For enhanced flavor, add 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract while mixing on low speed. Adjust salt to taste preference.
  6. To achieve an air-free, creamy consistency, use a spatula to press out any remaining air bubbles in the buttercream.
  7. Once prepared, the buttercream can be used immediately for frosting cakes, cupcakes, or stored for later use. To store, place it in an airtight container or a piping bag, ensuring it’s well-sealed, and refrigerate for up to 3-4 weeks or freeze for up to 2 months.

Tips:

  • Use good quality, fresh butter for the best flavor in your buttercream.
  • If the buttercream appears grainy, mix in more powdered sugar to smoothen it out.
  • To fix broken buttercream (grainy or curdled), add more powdered sugar and continue mixing until smooth.
  • Adjust the consistency by adding more cream for a silkier texture or more powdered sugar for a thicker one.
  • For a mirror-smooth finish, press out air bubbles by using a spatula to smooth the buttercream.
  • Experiment with flavor variations by adding ingredients like crushed Oreos, chocolate, caramel, or fruit extracts.

Enjoy making and decorating your cakes and cupcakes with this versatile buttercream frosting!
