Turn Your Old Jeans into Eco-Friendly Bowl Covers: The Innovative Solution for a Plastic-Free Kitchen!

How to Make Bowl Covers with Recycled Jeans

Have you ever found yourself with worn-out jeans and didn’t know what to do with them? Instead of throwing them away, why not transform them into something useful for your home? In this article, I’ll show you how to make bowl covers with recycled jeans, perfect for reducing plastic usage in the kitchen and adding a touch of unique style to your table.

Step 1: The First Cut

  1. Flip the jeans inside out and lay the legs flat.
  2. Take a bowl and trace around it with tailor’s chalk, making sure it’s larger than the bowl to allow for hems and adding elastic.
  3. Cut out the circles from both sides of the legs.

Step 2: Let’s Get Sewing

  1. First, we need to sew a hem to prevent fraying. NOTE: Sewing in a circle isn’t easy, so take your time and don’t worry if it’s not perfect, you won’t notice.
  2. Fold the hem over to create another edge, this time large enough to fit the elastic and a safety pin.
  3. Don’t sew all the way around, be sure to leave a 2-3 cm gap to thread the elastic through. You’ll close the opening later.

Step 3: Time for the Elastic

  1. Attach the safety pin to the elastic and start threading it through the opening.
  2. Once you see the pin come through, pull on the elastic to create some tension.

Step 4: The Final Touch

  1. Once you’ve got the right tension, make a double knot in the elastic.
  2. Trim off any excess elastic.
  3. Sew up the open end.
  4. Test the covers on your bowls.

Step 5:

The best part about these bowl covers is that you can put them in the washing machine when they get dirty, so simple and easy.

I hope you have fun transforming your old jeans into useful bowl covers.
