Tutorial: Bag Made from a Man’s Shirt

To create a bag using a man’s shirt, follow these steps:

Materials Needed:

  • Favorite shirt
  • Bag lining fabric (45 x 100 cm)
  • Fleece (90 x 100 cm)
  • Feed belt – 2 cuts at 70 cm
  • Decorative buttons (*optional)

Tools:

  • Scissors / patchwork knife
  • Thread
  • Needle / sewing machine

1. Cut Out Bag Details:

  • 2 pieces of 40 x 40 cm for the front (from the shirt)
  • 2 pieces of 40 x 40 cm for the lining
  • 2 pieces of 15 x 40 cm (from the shirt and lining)

2. Sew Shirt Details Together: Sew the shirt pieces with the button-down buttons so that they become a single canvas. The most convenient way is to sew along the existing factory line.

Before proceeding to the next step, be sure to adhere all bag fabric details with fleece.

3. Make Pockets: Take the two pocket pieces (15 x 40 cm) and place them facing each other. Sew along the long sides.

4. Turn Out Pockets and Press: Turn the pockets right side out and press them along the edges.

5. Attach Lining to Pockets: Apply one part of the lining to the pocket.

6. Sew Around the Perimeter of the Pocket: Sew around the perimeter, leaving the upper part of the pocket unsewn.

7. Attach Bag Handles: Sew the bag handles onto the front side of each shirt piece. Ensure they are symmetrical and of equal length.

8. Pair Up Shirt and Lining Pieces: Pair up the shirt fabric and lining detail facing each other (the handle loop must remain inside).

9. Sew Details Together: Sew details with the side where the handle has been sewn.

10. Press the Seam: Iron out the seam.

11. Fold the Resulting Details Together: Fold the resulting details facing each other, always aligning the seams. Sew around the perimeter, leaving an area on the lining unsewn to turn out.

12. Trim Corners: Trim corners (before reaching the seam) so they do not protrude when turning out.

13. Turn Out the Bag: Turn out the bag to get the desired result.

14. Stitch Counter Seams: Stitch counter seams to sew up the hole through which to turn out the bag.

15-16. Final Decorative Steps: The final decorative steps can be executed according to personal preference.
