Ingredients:
Sponge Cake:
- 1/2 cup oil
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 cups flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 4 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup sugar
Syrup:
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 2 1/2 cups icing sugar
- 3 heaped tablespoons cocoa powder
Red Glaze:
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 3 heaped tablespoons jam
- 3/4 cup icing sugar
- Red food coloring
Instructions:
- Prepare Cake Batter:
- Boil together oil, milk, and water. Set aside to cool.
- Sift together 2 cups flour and 4 teaspoons baking powder.
- In a separate bowl, beat 4 eggs and add vanilla. Gradually add 1 cup sugar, beating for 5 to 6 minutes.
- Combine the cooled flour mixture with the egg mixture in 3 batches, folding in to incorporate the ingredients.
- Pour the batter into greased snowball cup trays.
- Bake at 160-180°C for about 15 to 20 minutes or until baked.
- Prepare Syrup:
- In a pot, brown 3 tablespoons butter. Add 1 1/2 cups water, 2 1/2 cups icing sugar, and 3 heaped tablespoons cocoa powder.
- Stir everything together on medium heat until blended and the butter is melted. Remove from heat and let it cool a bit.
- Prepare Red Glaze:
- In a pot, add 1 1/2 cups water, 3 heaped tablespoons jam, 3/4 cup icing sugar, and enough red food coloring.
- Stir well on medium heat until it reaches boiling point. Let it boil for 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool a bit.
Tips:
- Adjust baking temperature based on your oven, typically around 160-180°C.
- For the red glaze, use enough food coloring for the desired intensity.
- Allow the syrup and red glaze to cool slightly before applying to the cake.
