Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 large onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 cups sliced potatoes
- 3 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Scalloped Potatoes
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Sprinkle flour over onion and garlic mixture and whisk to combine. Cook for 1 minute more.
- Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer and cook until sauce has thickened slightly, about 5 minutes.
- Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
- In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, layer half of the potato slices. Top with half of the sauce. Repeat layers.
- Sprinkle cheddar cheese over top.
- Bake for 30 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
