Scalloped Potatoes

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups sliced potatoes
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Scalloped Potatoes

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Sprinkle flour over onion and garlic mixture and whisk to combine. Cook for 1 minute more.
  4. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer and cook until sauce has thickened slightly, about 5 minutes.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  6. In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, layer half of the potato slices. Top with half of the sauce. Repeat layers.
  7. Sprinkle cheddar cheese over top.
  8. Bake for 30 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
