Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk (110 degrees F)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup dried fruit, such as raisins, cranberries, or cherries
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts, such as walnuts, pecans, or almonds
Instructions
- In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm milk. Let stand for 5 minutes, or until foamy.
- Stir in the sugar, salt, butter, and eggs until smooth. Gradually add the flour, stirring until the dough comes together.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and roll it out into a 12-inch circle.
- Spread the dough with softened butter and sprinkle with dried fruit and nuts.
- Roll up the dough from the long side and pinch the seam to seal.
- Cut the dough into 12 equal pieces.
- Place the rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Cover the pan with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Bake the rolls for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let the rolls cool on a wire rack before serving.
Tips
- For a richer flavor, you can add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the dough.
- You can also add 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon or nutmeg to the dough for a festive flavor.
- If you don’t have dried fruit, you can substitute 1/2 cup of chocolate chips or chopped candy.
