Stuffed Christmas Brioche

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk (110 degrees F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup dried fruit, such as raisins, cranberries, or cherries
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts, such as walnuts, pecans, or almonds

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm milk. Let stand for 5 minutes, or until foamy.
  2. Stir in the sugar, salt, butter, and eggs until smooth. Gradually add the flour, stirring until the dough comes together.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and roll it out into a 12-inch circle.
  6. Spread the dough with softened butter and sprinkle with dried fruit and nuts.
  7. Roll up the dough from the long side and pinch the seam to seal.
  8. Cut the dough into 12 equal pieces.
  9. Place the rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan.
  10. Cover the pan with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  11. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  12. Bake the rolls for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown.
  13. Let the rolls cool on a wire rack before serving.

Tips

  • For a richer flavor, you can add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the dough.
  • You can also add 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon or nutmeg to the dough for a festive flavor.
  • If you don’t have dried fruit, you can substitute 1/2 cup of chocolate chips or chopped candy.

Enjoy!
